Manchester United pulled off a sensational win over Juventus on Wednesday night, coming from behind to win the encounter 2-1.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning effort giving the hosts a lead, Jose Mourinho’s effective substitutions tilted the match in the visitors’ favour, with Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini playing a huge role in the comeback.

The result managed to stun both sets of supporters, with neutral fans and pundits alike surprised with the Red Devils handing Juventus just their second home defeat in Europe in the last 15 years.

BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand was quick to heap praise on his former side, and the legendary centre-back did single out one Manchester United player for his performance against the reigning Serie A champions.

Speaking after the game, Ferdinand stated: “Exactly what we wanted, going into the derby at the weekend as well, what a fantastic result. Confidence I’m sure will be on the rise.

“What a difficult place to go, this stadium, they’ve made it a fortress over the last couple of years. The substitutions, Jose’s got to take huge credit. Mata coming on got the goal, Fellaini causing havoc in there as well.”

Rio further added: “I think that the substitutes played a really vital part in the ending of this match. But Martial, I think, deserves special mention, I thought he was Man United’s best player on the day.”

The Frenchman has been in tremendous form for the Mancunian giants lately, and he will now look to continue his streak when his side visits the Etihad on Sunday.
