Rooney Reveals Why His Final Few Months At Man United Were Embarrassing

Wayne Rooney left Manchester United two seasons ago, and there is no denying the fact that he did so as a legend.

The striker bid adieu to Old Trafford after a stellar career consisting of every winnable trophy, becoming club captain and also the highest ever goalscorer in the history of the Mancunian club.

While he will go down in the history books as one of the greatest to have ever worn the red jersey of Manchester, his exit from the team does not spell perfection.

The player recently revealed that before he eventually left United after 13 years at the club, there were times when he doubted his stay.

Rooney told Sky Sports: “There are times when you doubt yourself as a player, you think: ‘Am I good enough?’ The time Jose Mourinho left me out of the Manchester United team.

“There are moments when you do doubt yourself, I believe I was good enough to get back in the team, but I never really got that opportunity.”

While reflecting upon his final few months with the Red Devils, Rooney added: “I came on for one minute in the Europa League final, I was about to come on against Southampton in the League Cup final, and in those moments, it was embarrassing.

“He was persistent with it, and I literally lifted it and moved it on! I just knew… what was I doing? I need to move on and go somewhere else.”

Rooney has since returned to his boyhood club Everton, and is now at DC United, showing the world that he is still one of the best out there.
