Manchester United are set to make David De Gea one of the top earners at the club.

The star goalkeeper has been negotiating a new deal with the Old Trafford outfit for quite some time now. But the talks have only dragged on, as an agreement over a favourable outcome for both parties wasn’t being reached.

But now, according to The Sun, the Spaniard himself has told his friends that he has agreed on fresh terms with the Mancunian giants.

This new deal is all set to make De Gea one of the highest earning players at the Theatre of Dreams, on par with star forward Alexis Sanchez.

The wage rise will see the shot-stopper pocket £400,000-a-week after bonuses, whilst also tying the 28-year-old down in Manchester until he is well into his 30s.

It will also provide a further boost to Jose Mourinho’s defensive plans. The Portuguese was adamant on holding onto the custodian, having recently admitted: “If we want to be Manchester United, we need the best players in the world. We have the best goalkeeper in the world.”

This development is sure to hinder the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain, however. The Ligue 1 giants were keen on signing De Gea on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, as a readymade replacement for Gianluigi Buffon.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils could now move on from this successful deal to focus on further strengthening their defence, with reports indicating that the club has already lined up several targets for the upcoming January window.
