How Much Man United Will Have To Pay If They Sack Mourinho NOW
Jose Mourinho is having a terrible third season at Manchester United. The humiliating defeat against Liverpool has confirmed that the Red Devils are in no shape of beating a top side anytime soon.
Reports suggested that a conference call was held after the fixture between club officials and the Glazer family, where the possibility of sacking the Portuguese boss was discussed.
But what are the consequences that Manchester United would face if they get rid of Mourinho at the end of this season?
Ed Woodward was eager to fend off interest from Inter Milan at the start of this year and decided to tie down the former Real Madrid boss with a new improved contract. Record Sport reveals that the deal includes a severance package which could Mourinho earn a year’s salary in advance.

Manchester United would have to shell out at least £18 million if they decide to replace the manager at the end of this season. This number will go upto £24 million if Mourinho is sacked now.
United officials were smart to add a UCL -based clause to the contract as 25 per cent of the pay is conditional depending on the club’s future in the Champions League.

Mathematically, The Red Devils could make into to the top-four of the Premier League, or just do the unthinkable and win the Champions League this season. This forces Ed Woodward to not sack Jose Mourinho at the moment and wait until the clauses become unachievable.
In the post-match interview on Sunday, the United gaffer seems to be concerned about his job and revealed that it would be a tough battle to clinch a Champions League spot at the end of this season.
“What do you mean by fix? To win the title? Of course not. We can still finish fourth. It’s not easy but for sure for sure we’re going to finish in the top 6, but the best we can get is fourth.”
