The race for Manchester United’s caretaker manager is gaining shape. Reports are surfacing that former Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc could be roped in to see out the 2018-19 season.
This comes after United decided to sack Jose Mourinho after just 17 matches into the Premier League season. United are sixth and are 11 points adrift of the Champions League qualifying position.
United’s haul of 26 points at this period, is their worst tally in the top flight at this stage since 1990-91.
United revealed on Tuesday that they will be hiring a new caretaker manager externally and not someone from the coaching staff. It has been reported that Michael Carrick and first-team coach Kieran McKenna will be part of the training sessions.

Meanwhile, former United defender Blanc, who has managed the French national team and PSG, is available and could use his experience to great effect. According to a report in the Mirror, United want someone, who has had a link with United and knows about the club.
That’s where Blanc fits the bill.
Apart from Blanc, former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also in the mix.
According to a report in Sky Sports, Carrick will be acting as interim manager of United until a new temporary manager is appointed. An appointment is expected in the next 48 hours.
