Youth development was one of Mourinho’s biggest flaws, and Solskjaer, who was the United Reserves coach between 2008 and 2010, has been pro-youth the entire time.
However, the Portuguese was the one who gave Gomes his Red Devils’ debut at the age of 16, and the player thanked him in a twitter post recently, which read: “You allowed me to make my debut at 16 and play in front of the Stretford End something I will never forget ever. Thank you boss.”

Gomes, 18, and Garner, 17, are certainly part of the club’s future plans, and Ole could be the mastermind that kicks their United careers off.
While speaking about the same, Ole said: “That’s our identity, I was in the reserves as well, so I’ve been on that side of it, the link between the academy and the first-team.
“I know how important it is that me, Nicky, Ricky and Neil speak a lot because that is in our tradition, it doesn’t just go back to the Class of ’92, it goes back even further than Sir Alex, back to Sir Matt Busby. And I’ll never forget it, if you’re good enough you’re old enough.”
