Jose Mourinho had been living with the fear of facing the sack for a while, but when it did come, it sure took him by surprise.

The manager had reason to believe that he was about to meet Ed Woodward to discuss the upcoming transfer window, but as it turned out, that was far from true.

Woodward gave Mourinho the sack following a thumping defeat at the hands of Liverpool, and the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker boss was enough to allow the topic to be buried pretty quickly.

However, according to recent reports coming in from The Times, there was one key player heavily involved in the exit of the Portuguese from Old Trafford.

Manchester United‘s worst ever start to any season was enough reason for a few names to believe that Mourinho’s time was up at the club, including that of the Glazers.

It is also assumed that following the Liverpool defeat, an unnamed player called Woodward and ‘told him Jose should leave’.

A slight push is all that the decision-making team needed, and Tuesday saw the news of the sacking break out to the world.

Ole has made the ideal start to his reign at the club where he made his name as a player, as his side defeated Cardiff 5-1 in the Premier League – a feat that many believed Mourinho’s team would never dare to achieve, which was enough proof to back Woodward’s decision of sending him packing.

Be it a PogCall or the unnamed player desperate to save the club, the United fans will certainly thank him for the remainder of the season.
