While Manchester United‘s attack has reached a whole new level under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, their defence has continued to leak in goals, with the side having conceded a goal in each of the three games played under the new interim boss.

It is no secret that the Red Devils need to improve their defence – something Jose Mourinho was absolutely adamant about before getting the sack last month.

The Mancunians have been consistently linked with several world-class centre-backs, including the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, and Kalidou Koulibaly, to name a few.

Now, a new name appears to have popped up on their wish-list, and it is that of Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

Since joining the Serie A outfit four years ago, the Greek international has managed to establish himself as one of the best defenders across the continent.

Naturally, he has time and again attracted interest from several European powerhouses, including Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea. However, Roma have managed to fend off suitors and hold onto him each and every time.

In fact, the 27-year-old signed a new long-term contract with the Rome-based outfit as recently as 2017. But the deal does consist of a release clause worth €36m, which has supposedly caught the attention of Manchester United as well as Paris Saint-Germain, as per TuttoMercatoWeb.

The report adds that the defender has made it clear to all the interested parties that he has no intention of leaving the Italian club before the end of the season. However, that does make a potential summer transfer all the more likely.

Top officials at Manchester United do consider Manolas a more feasible option compared to their other targets. But it remains to be seen if they can convince Roma to sell, and beat PSG in this transfer race in the process.
