Herrera Reveals Why De Gea Has Cut A Disappointed Figure At Man United Lately
After having leaked in the goals on a consistent basis, Manchester United finally managed to keep a clean sheet in their recent Premier League win over Newcastle United.
The Red Devils’ defence did start the game shakily, but the backline eventually stabilised, with Victor Lindelof dropping an excellent performance against the Magpies.
The clean sheet at St James’ Park was only the sixth kept by the Mancunians across all competitions this season, having already conceded 38 goals so far.
After the game, midfielder Ander Herrera spoke about his side’s defensive display, whilst also revealing some information about their star goalkeeper, David De Gea.

“It (the clean sheet) is very important, also because they have a fantastic striker (in) Salomon Rondon,” Herrera said to the reporters during his post-match interview.
“He was scoring a lot of goals and our two centre-backs were really, really good. Even in the first-half, they had a small confusion and Jones made a fantastic tackle into the box.”

The Spaniard further added: “I think all of us are in good form, clean sheet as well. Very important for David as well. We wanted to make David happy because he was a little bit disappointed the last games.
“I had to cope with him after the game, killing my mind, telling me that he wanted a clean sheet and I’m happy for him as well because he got a clean sheet.”
A shot-stopper of De Gea’s stature certainly deserves more clean sheets, and perhaps he may finally get some additional protection in front of him now that the winter transfer window is underway.
