Greatness inspires further brilliance, and this is quite prominent in sports, wherein potent styles are aped by aspiring players. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for his part, is clearly intent on copying the attacking ethos that his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson successfully instilled at Manchester United.

The Norwegian’s caretaker tenure has seen the Mancunian giants net 14 goals so far, a high-octane brand of football being put on display by the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

The latter has been particularly impressive under the new gaffer, having scored thrice in four appearances, a goal shy of Pogba’s stellar form.

A good deal of Rashford’s impact has come through set-pieces, with the opening goal of Solskjaer’s reign coming through a free-kick from the youngster. On Wednesday, it was his free-kick that Romelu Lukaku converted to score the opener against Newcastle United.

Now, the gaffer has had interesting revelations about Rashford’s style, stating: “I can talk about loads of individuals. But when you’re a striker like he is, scored such a great goal like today, calm composed, just passes it past the goalkeeper.”

In fact, turns out his free-kicks are akin to another United legend, as Ole adds: “But his free-kicks, that was the start against Cardiff, and then he does it again, he’s got a great hit. He must have been watching Cristiano (Ronaldo) when he was practising.”

There’s nothing but praise for Rashford as he went on: “Tough test [playing up front on his own]. He gets kicked, and he gets tackled, he goes for headers, he wins, he challenges, he runs.

“He is going to be a top, top number nine, definitely. But then we’ve got Rom, so sometimes he’ll play on the right, sometimes on the left, sometimes through the middle, he’ll get enough games.”

His season’s tally at an impressive 6 goals and 6 assists already, it will be interesting to see how much better Rashford will get under the new management.
