Former Man United Manager Shockingly Backs Liverpool To Win The League

The ongoing Premier League season seems very likely to be a three-horse race, with Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur set to compete for the title.

While Spurs remain very much in the running, their tendency to “bottle it”, as football fans on Twitter time and again remind everyone, has led many to consider the former two clubs as the more realistic contenders.

Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal also believes the teams managed by Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola will fight for the trophy until the very end.

In fact, the Dutchman was recently asked to choose his pick for the title amongst the Merseyside Reds and the Mancunian Blues – a seemingly impossible decision to make for someone associated with Manchester United.

However, Van Gaal seemed to have no trouble in naming his pick, as he abundantly favoured Liverpool to go all the way this term.

“Klopp has turned Liverpool into an ­absolute fighting machine – both ­attacking and defending,” said LVG (Ziggo Sport). “So, if I was to put my money on one club for the league, it would be Liverpool. Liverpool’s team is not based on the highest quality when it comes to their players.

“In fact, the highest quality players are at City. But, at the same time, that is the ­weakness in ­Guardiola. He only coaches his teams in an attacking way. ­Always. The moment his team have to defend, they look terrible. ­

“Liverpool have a team that can defend much better. That’s because Klopp has trained them to be a fighting force, whether they have the ball or not. That’s exactly what is lacking in Guardiola’s team now.

“City have fabulous football ideas and a sparkling way of playing – but not the right ­fighting spirit. Don’t get me wrong, I still love to watch the way City play. But the way Klopp makes Liverpool play is absolutely fantastic.”

It would be interesting to see just how much the Manchester United fans agree with their former gaffer’s comments.
