What Jose Mourinho Said About Paul Pogba Back In 2017 Is Brilliant
When Paul Pogba secured his sensational return to Manchester United in the summer of 2016, not everyone saw the transfer as a good deal, especially due to the money involved.
The Red Devils had coughed up a record-breaking transfer fee of £89 million to re-sign their youth academy graduate – a decision that was described as extravagant and senseless.
However, the club’s then gaffer, Jose Mourinho, had made an astonishing claim regarding the nature of Pogba’s transfer, and it now appears that the Portuguese tactician was spot on with his prediction.
“I am pretty sure next summer some players with only half his quality will cost the same money,” Mourinho had stated back in February 2017. “I am waiting for that moment to release him from the scrutiny that goes with his price.

“Right now when he plays well, which he does many times, people think it is normal and when he does not perform quite so well pundits and even supporters go strong on him. He can be fantastic and I think in a couple of years you will realise he was cheap.”
These comments were made before the relationship between Jose and Pogba turned sour – a development that eventually ended up playing a huge part in the former’s departure from Old Trafford.

The prediction, however, has definitely come true, as four other players, viz. Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho, and Ousmane Dembele have costed a lot more money than Pogba since.
Further, considering the 25-year-old’s recent performances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the inflation in the current transfer market, the £89m Manchester United spent for the World Cup-winning Frenchman definitely appears to be a cheap price at the moment.
