Solskjaer Criticises Liverpool’s Aggressive Approach Towards Marcus Rashford

A goalless draw and plenty of injuries graced the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Roberto Firmino were all subbed off in the first-half itself due to injuries.
However, Marcus Rashford was also received a knock, that too in the first minute itself, and the youngster was visibly limping for much of the game.
Liverpool targeted the forward heavily during both halves, a point that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticized after the full-time whistle, stating: “Think you can’t say ‘targeted’ but you can say there were quite a few fouls on him, definitely.
“And normally I would take him off after five minutes, because whoever it was went straight through him. His ankle blew up straight away but he wanted to run it off. And then I couldn’t take him off with Juan and Jesse going off, so we’re hoping he’s not done too much damage.”

The Rashford situation also caused flutters elsewhere, with former Liverpool and United player Michael Owen stating a controversial opinion at half-time.
Speaking as a pundit, Owen commented: “With Manchester United not being able to bring on another substitute I’d be saying right, first person, first opportunity. Go and kick Rashford on the ankle that he’s been limping on in the first half.”

As expected, fans were furious at what Owen was implying and criticized him heavily on Twitter. He later tweeted the following in defense: “Hadn’t realised there were so many angels here on Twitter. For everyone in uproar over my comments yesterday, get real.
“As an ex-player I am employed to give my views and insights into what happens at football clubs all over the land. Nobody was advocating giving Marcus Rashford a serious injury.
“But with 3 subs already used if his ankle was so uncomfortable he couldn’t continue then of course that would be discussed in every changing room in the land.”
