What Solskjaer Said About Scott McTominay After Liverpool Match

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has likened Scott McTominay to former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher following the youngster’s performance against Liverpool.

Due to a training session injury to Nemanja Matic, McTominay made his way to the starting lineup for the ginormous Premier League encounter, and the 22-year-old did not disappoint.

His performance pleased the fans and the manager alike, with the Norwegian tactician comparing the player to Darren Fletcher – a midfielder Sir Alex Ferguson relied upon heavily during his time at Old Trafford.

Speaking about McTominay in his post-match interview, Solskjaer stated (via Goal): “I learned a lot about Scott McTominay, who I’ve been waiting to give a chance in a more attacking role.

“He can run into the box, is dangerous, he was a Darren Fletcher today for us. Absolutely fantastic, he’s not played since Reading, that’s six weeks ago, January 5.”

Ole then went on to speak about the character his weakened lineup displayed against the Merseysiders, as he added: “Andreas [Pereira], with the criticism he’s had to come on and did fantastically. So I learnt a lot about the character of the team.

“That first half wasn’t good enough with the ball, never seen us be so sloppy on the ball, giving easy balls away, but then we got through it.”

The 45-year-old certainly won’t be a fully pleased with having earned just a point from the fixture, but he will now hope the team bounces back successfully in the upcoming midweek encounter against Southampton.
