Manchester United have been a thoroughly different team following the departure of Jose Mourinho in December. The Portuguese tactician presently serves a pundit and provides his assessments and inputs to a variety of big games.

Links have been strongly suggesting that a Real Madrid stint could be in the Special One’s future. If that is indeed the case, then the gaffer certainly made a strong point when commenting upon the performance of one player.

Speaking about Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to BeIN Sports, Mourinho stated: “Before I leave, let me say something. I’ve wanted to say this for a long, long time: Ivan Rakitic is one of the most underrated players in the world.”

Promising words from Mourinho, who then went on to add: “I just wanted to finish on that because normally we speak about the big names.”

However, the former Manchester United manager then joked: “For me, Rakitic needs to improve his Instagram and his social media because in this moment this is very important and he is not very good on that, he is good on the pitch.

“He’s a fantastic player at every level. He does defensive work on the right hand side to compensate Messi, he runs miles. In ball possession, he’s fantastic, he’s simple, and he’s effective. He is one of the most underrated players.”

The irony won’t be lost, since social media spats have been fresh episodes in the gaffer’s memory. Paul Pogba and Antonio Valencia got into trouble with Mourinho for their social media posts, and this sarcasm will be seen in interesting light as a result of that.

If a Madrid move does materialize for the manager, then Rakitic could certainly feature as a signing that Mourinho could make given that Barca may find the Croatian surplus to their needs after signing De Jong.
