Manchester United have always been a team of raw passion, untethered excitement, and held firm the ethos of shattering expectations.

On Wednesday, the Red Devils did just that and in historic fashion as they engineered a 3-1 win over PSG, winning on away goals in the 3-3 aggregate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Midas touch standing intact.

Let us have a look at how the lads performed on the night:

David De Gea- 6.8

Sloppy from the Spaniard in letting in PSG’s sole goal of the night, but held his calm very well against Mbappe and late in the game.

Eric Bailly- 5.4

Had to start due to injury woes, but got injured himself. In many ways, his substitution was a blessing in disguise as he was severely punished by the PSG flank.

Chris Smalling- 7.2

Did little wrong on the night and provided a staunch defense, particularly early on when the Parisians were playing with complete swagger.

Victor Lindelof – 6.9

A couple of mistakes here and there but made up for it with his composure, specifically in added time.

Luke Shaw- 7.4

Utter brilliance from the youngster. Was able to counter the pacey flank of the opposition with relative ease when compared to the Old Trafford leg.

Ashley Young- 6.6

Being shifted back to right-back was the crucial impact he made on the game. Perfect and disciplined except during the early minutes.

Scott McTominay- 7.7

Raw strength from the academy graduate. His takeons crippled the PSG midfield and thoroughly broke the pace of the French team.

Fred- 7.5

Decent showing. Still hasn’t proven his worth, but held his cool during this game.

Andreas Pereira- 7.0

Not the attacking presence Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have hoped for, but nevertheless a mature performance.

Romelu Lukaku- 8.8

The Belgian lion strikes again with a man of the match performance. Lukaku put United back into the tie in the second minute itself and then again in the 30th minute, his third brace in as many games. Superb showing. Still not given the penalty though.

Marcus Rashford- 7.1

His strong shot was what confounded Buffon and directly led to Lukaku’s second goal. But it is the penalty winner in the 94th minute that Rashford will cherish for a long, long time.

Substitutions

Diogo Dalot- 7.4

Once again provided the all-important tactical difference to the game, this time from a defensive perspective.

Tahith Chong- 6.0

Despite spending only 10 minutes on the pitch, his tactical brilliance was there for all to see, particularly in the manner in which he neutralized Di Maria’s threat in his very first touch on the pitch itself.

Mason Greenwood- 5.0

Too late to make a solid impact but will be happy to have made his first-team debut at last. To be able to witness such a win will bear strongly in the future of the 17-year-old.
