Alexis Sanchez simply hasn’t proven to be the player that Manchester United fans were hoping for him to be. Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in spite of his Midas touch with regard to Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Romelu Lukaku, has been unable to alter the Chilean’s form.

Initially, it did appear that the former Barcelona and Arsenal forward could make a decent run under the Norwegian.

But after failing to make an impact despite starting and being brought on as a substitute for crucial games, both club and player may be ready to make a big choice regarding his future.

According to the Daily Star Sanchez has informed his representatives to find him a new club come summer. However, the obvious problem is that his age, dwindling skill-set, and an enormous wage package may limit the number of clubs that would be interested in purchasing him.

In that regard, Sanchez is reportedly willing to take a big wage-cut from his present £500,000-a-week package. That amount has caused United more trouble than they would have hoped for.

In addition to Sanchez not providing enough action on the field to justify his price tag, his wages are now also an object of desire for other talents at Old Trafford vying for contract extensions, with David De Gea believed to be one such name.

Further, the report adds that even though Solskjaer, who is likely to remain the United manager come summer, is willing to make the sale of the 30-year-old, the club hierarchy is still hopeful.

In that regard, Ed Woodward is believed to have called for a meeting of Sanchez and his representatives to analyze their options going forward.

Given the brilliant form of some of the club’s other younger forwards, more than one fan will feel that Sanchez could serve a better role if he departs.
