Ibrahimovic Reveals Why He Rejected The Chance To Join Man City

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that he turned down the chance to join Manchester City in 2010.

The Swedish superstar has been a well-traveled footballer, having enjoyed successful stints in Sweden, Holland, Italy, Spain, France, England, and currently the United States of America.

The 37-year-old arrived at MLS outfit LA Galaxy after spending one-and-a-half seasons at Manchester United – a club he joined in the summer of 2016.

However, Zlatan has now revealed that he had a chance to make the switch to the Premier League back in 2010 as well, when he was still at Barcelona.

The decorated striker’s time at the Camp Nou had come to an unceremonious end after he fell out with the then Barca boss, Pep Guardiola.

After having announced his intention to depart from the Catalan club, Ibrahimovic was bombarded with offers from all across Europe. One such offer was made by Man City, who were looking to build a world-class squad post the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover.

However, Zlatan decided to turn the Cityzens down, and instead chose to return to Italy, securing a switch to Serie A giants AC Milan.

Explaining this decision in his recent interview, the forward stated: “I had the chance to go to Manchester City when I was at Barcelona. But after that moment in Barcelona, I needed to find happiness. Going back to Italy, I was happy in Italy, and I knew I would be happy if I go back.

“I didn’t know if I would be happy if I go to City because it’s a different challenge. It would have been a new club, which Milan also was. But I knew the city because I had three years at Inter, I knew the country, so I took a little bit of a safe card.”
