Manchester United have an important summer ahead in terms of the transfer market. They are said to be interested in a couple of players in relation to different positions.

One key area identified is the midfield. With talks of Ander Herrera leaving the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to identify a few key targets. One such player being linked with a move is DC United’s Luciano Acosta.

Former Red Devils’ talisman Wayne Rooney has already praised the player’s qualities, besides stating that he is destined to join a big club.

According to a report in The Atlantic (viaMetro), it’s been stated that the 24-year-old is being monitored by Manchester United. He was one of the star players in Major League Soccer last season, with 10 goals and 15 assists in 33 appearances.

Acosta was also on the verge of joining French champions Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window. A deal worth under €10m (£8.6m) was reportedly agreed with DC United, but the European giants pulled out on deadline day.

Now, United are said to be interested in the player, as he is a much more viable option in terms of the transfer sum.

Acosta’s current contract with DC United expires in December 2019, but there are talks taking place in relation to an extension. This season hasn’t been smooth for the Argentine, as he has suffered a slow start to the new MLS season.

Rooney believes his DC United teammate is destined to join a ‘top club’. The Washington Post quoted the Englishman as saying: “He needs to keep motivated. He’s a professional player, I’m sure he will.

“He now knows what kind of teams are interested in him. If he continues performing up to his ability, he will get there. He’s young and he’s talented, one of the best I’ve played with.”
