‘I Was The Biggest Problem’ – United Star Takes Blame For Defeat Against Everton

Manchester United scripted the wrong side of history with their 4-0 loss to Everton on Sunday. The defeat was the club’s worst one under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well as the most awful one all season, despite poor games against the likes of PSG and Barcelona.

It also contributed to making their recent away form the poorest one in the last 40 years, coming at the back of the best away form they ever enjoyed in their long history.

To make matter worse, the four goals they conceded on Sunday made their tally this season to be the most goals ever conceded by the Red Devils in Premier League history.

Such a folly doesn’t arise just at once. The players are to blame for the uninspiring performance, as even the top talent at the squad proved to be toothless at Goodison Park, with next to no individual looking likely to put in a heart-filled showing when they kept conceding goals.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Nemanja Matic assigned blame to a surprising person: “Nothing worked for us today. I, who am the most experienced player in the team today, did not play well. We can’t blame the young lads. I was the biggest problem.”

While Matic’s frank honesty and protection of the youngsters is admirable, it doesn’t excuse the display that the Serb put up. The fans were thoroughly disappointed, as the club was expected to start this week of fixtures all guns blazing.

On social media, more than one supporter dreaded what the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea may have in store for them later on, if mid-level Everton were able to inflict such damage upon them.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it clear in his post-match interview that players will be departing in the summer, and Matic may just be one of them.
