Jurgen Klopp Unfazed By The Outcome Of The Manchester Derby

Wednesday’s Manchester derby wasn’t one that will be remembered all too fondly by the red side of the city, which got beaten 2-0.

The game had bigger ramifications for the final outcome of who would win the Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool embroiled in a tough battle that is likely to come down to the final day.

The result at Old Trafford took City one point clear of Liverpool at the top of the table. In the buildup to the game, many Liverpool supporters were hoping that United would come out on top, leaving them with a promising lead with three games to go in the season.

However, Jurgen Klopp held a more practical view. Speaking in an interview after the Manchester derby, he had the following to say: “It was the result I expected. United tried whatever they can, especially in the first half, but over the 95 minutes they can’t handle City.”

He went on to add: “We are now one point behind them and we knew if we win our next two games, the decision will be made in the last game. There’s three games left. We want to win them. Huddersfield, Newcastle, Wolves. That’s the situation.

That’s all there is to say. If we win it, we win it. If we don’t there are no regrets as long as we give our best. I’ve seen that all season. However the season ends up this is the first step. If we win the league it is the first step. That’s how it is. We start now.”

The results of the Premier League rarely come down to the wire, with the final day drama that gifted Manchester City the title for the first time being the only one that was decided on goal-difference.
