Former United Forward Claims He’s Interested In Becoming Club’s Director Of Football

Dimitar Berbatov has put himself forward for the Director of Football role at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are set to appoint a new DoF for the first time in their history come summer, in order to create a direct link between the manager and the higher-ups at the club.

This director will also be in charge of conducting all the transfer business at the Old Trafford club, and will therefore, be an extremely important figure for the Mancunians, especially during the years of rebuilding and revamping the squad.

A number of former Manchester United players have already been linked with the job, including the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Darren Fletcher, Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, and Mike Phelan.

Now, another ex-Red has spoken about the possibility of being appointed as the club’s director himself, and that player is none other than Dimitar Berbatov.

Writing in his Betfair blog, the Bulgarian opined: “After Rio Ferdinand last week, Darren Fletcher is the latest name linked with the Director of Football role, but why not Dimitar Berbatov? I have the degree in Sports Management (as well as coaching badges) for starters.”

Berbatov then went on to stress on the importance of hiring someone who actually possesses vital experience in the position, as he added: “This is an important position, you are the link between the manager and the team and directors. United have to find someone who can do this the right way.

“I know about the job, how it is performed and it’s on my mind, but you need to be ready for this. You can’t expect to be given this role purely because you are an ex-player and United will make a mistake if they recruit solely on that basis.”
