Kalidou Koulibaly Is United’s No. 1 Transfer Target – Solskjaer Is Desperate

Manchester United may border on desperation in the summer transfer window. With no Champions League football on the offer and a dwindling reputation, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will face an uphill task at attaining his big targets.

As of such, spending smart and moving for youth players who may not have an intent for Europe yet may be the way to go and indeed seemed to be the path that the club was looking to pursue, based on recent transfer claims.

However, now the Red Devils are looking at a very expensive top priority signing and one that they’ll have a tough time in attaining.

As per the Mirror, Manchester United have made Kalidou Koulibaly their top target for the summer yet again. The Napoli midfielder has been on the radar of the English giants since the days of Jose Mourinho itself.

United conceded 54 goals in the Premier League this season, their worst tally in eons. The defensive woes were painfully obvious in the Cardiff City game where despite attractive attacking football, they simply weren’t able to plug their defense.

As of such, it is easy to see how Solskjaer would require a leader in his backline and why the club has prioritized the signing of the Senegalese international.

However, Napoli’s boss Carlo Ancelotti has a slightly different take on the matter, as he stated: “The best centre back in the world? I would say so. And he can still improve. He is worth €150m and he is not available for transfer. Koulibaly’s contract expires in 2023, in 2021 there’s a €150m clause but Napoli do not need to sell, the president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] does not want to sell and the question doesn’t come up.”

This would mean that if United even did put an offer big enough for Napoli, their transfer coffers will be severely depleted and that too for a 27-year-old with no experience in the Premier League.
