Over the years, Ajax have made quite a reputation for themselves as a team that is able to develop and lead brilliant talents to the zenith of European greatness.

This season, the Dutch team, riddled with their youthful presence almost made it to the finals of the UEFA Champions League, defying expectations and eliminating favorites along the way.

Their focus on teenagers is quite remarkable as is the fact that they’ve given the likes of de Ligt and de Jong crucial roles over the years, effectively prepping them for big roles elsewhere.

Of course, that comes with the threat of their talents being poached by European giants and now Ajax are all but assured to lose one such prospect.

Ajax have confirmed that 16-year-old Dillon Hoogewerf will leave the club and reports in the Netherlands say that the teenager will join Manchester United shortly.

The side’s Head of Youth Education Said Ouaali stated the same: “Dillon has indicated last week that he will leave the club. He is leaving for a foreign club. We wish him a lot of success and know that we have done everything to keep him. He may ultimately make the choice and choose a foreign adventure.”

It is expected that Dillon will sign his first professional contract with Manchester United and play a role in their U-18s roster while being prepped for senior team football. The attacker is one of the finest prospects in the European youth scene and has shown a knack for scoring goals.

If the deal is concluded as reported, he will effectively become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s inaugural signing at Manchester United.

This indicates the kind of philosophy that the Norwegian is bringing back to Old Trafford. The club has long benefited from developing youth players and giving them a breakthrough that eventually nurtures into stardom.
