The transfer window has had a proven penchant for being cruel with deals falling apart at the eleventh hour, sagas collapsing after months of hype, and fax machines bringing down what could have been a marquee signing.

However, at the heart of all this drama is speculation that is in turn fueled by the realms of possibility, a domino effect that the European theatre of transfer is all too familiar with.

Now, an interesting turn of events and a pair of fortunate circumstances may end up in Antoine Griezmann joining Manchester United- a saga reignited.

According to the Independent, the hierarchy at Barcelona have serious doubts regarding whether the side should invest in Griezmann this summer. The French winger revealed earlier that he doesn’t want to remain at Atletico Madrid any longer.

If Barca’s doubts materialize into bringing down this deal, and it looks likely that it will, the 28-year-old will be looking for a different club in the coming months.

The same source believes that Manchester United could be that destination and that the parties in question have reestablished contact over a possible transfer.

However, the very fears that Barca expressed, namely that the £108 million to be spent on Griezmann’s release clause could be invested elsewhere, also applies to United who have financial cautions of their own.

However, with recent claims suggesting that the club could offload the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer, it is easy to see why the funds for the Frenchman could be readily available. Moreover, there is a clear need for a world-class winger at Old Trafford and the Sancho saga seems to have ended.

Lastly, if they choose to pursue Griezmann, United won’t be facing heavy competition either as Manchester City, PSG, and Real Madrid aren’t interested and Juventus cannot afford the forward.
