Matthijs De Ligt has two major demands in order to complete a sensational summer switch.

The Ajax captain is being pursued by several European juggernauts, but Barcelona and Manchester United are said to be the frontrunners in this transfer race at the moment.

Having signed Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, the Catalan giants expected De Ligt to follow suit, but they are no closer to signing the centre-back than they were before the summer window opened.

The Red Devils have a genuine chance of wrapping this transfer up, and now, they have received another huge boost due to the player’s transfer demands.

According to Mundo Deportivo, super agent Mino Raiola has urged the 19-year-old to cool off his interest in moving to the Camp Nou. Further, the defender now has two demands, which are likely to be met if he plays hard to get with the Spanish champions.

De Ligt’s first demand is more money – he wants an deal offer than what he is currently being offered by Barcelona. His second demand is a guaranteed spot in the starting lineup.

The La Liga giants will face a difficult time meeting both these requirements, as they are already hesitant to improve their initial offer.

Moreover, with the likes of Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, and Samuel Umtiti vying for starting spots, it would also be difficult to promise definite assurances of regular first-team football.

Manchester United, on the other hand, could meet these demands with their eyes closed. They are already prepared to make De Ligt the highest paid teenager in the game.

And with no real competition in central defence, the Dutchman will immediately lead the pecking order upon his arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.
