Manchester United believe they can beat Manchester City in the race to sign Harry Maguire.

The Leicester City defender supposedly prefers a move to the back-to-back Premier League champions over their struggling inter-city rivals.

Moreover, Manchester City themselves intend to sign Maguire as the long-term successor for Vincent Kompany, but they are unwilling to meet the Foxes’ enormous valuation of the player.

Leicester City value their star centre-back over £80m, whereas the Cityzens are only prepared to pay a fee in the region of £50m.

Manchester City‘s reluctance to meet the King Power outfit’s asking price has now led Manchester United to believe that they can win the race for Maguire’s services, as per the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils are prepared to cough up the required amount, and they hope to convince the 26-year-old Englishman that his future lies at Old Trafford.

Having conceded more goals last season than they did in the past 40 years, Manchester United are well aware that signing some top-class defenders is an absolute must this summer.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to strictly prioritise the signing of domestic young talent, and Maguire fits his requirements perfectly.
