Harry Maguire Set For Transfer Following Gentleman’s Agreement

Most pundits seem to agree that no matter how much Manchester United spend this summer their endeavors will be flawed if they don’t invest in an able centre-back to solve their defensive woes.

While Victor Lindelof held his own quite well last season, it is obvious that he doesn’t have a firm leader to partner with at the back.

The Red Devils have been searching quite widely for a defender that meets these criteria. Their big-name pursuits have almost always failed due to their inability to offer Champions League football next season. However, there is one avenue from where they may still be able to garner some hope.

According to the Mirror, United may have received a boost in their pursuit of Leicester City’s Harry Maguire. The report states that the defender had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place with the late owner of the club, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha that he would be allowed to depart the side this summer.

Mr Srivaddhanaprabha passed away in a tragic helicopter crash but his son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has reportedly told Maguire that the promise would be honored and that any pursuer would only have to meet the Foxes’ valuation.

This is a major shift in their stance on the centre-back as they have rejected to entertain any bids for him in past windows.

The report stresses that the club would still prefer to not sell him as they value him highly but are instead choosing on honoring the aforementioned promise.

Man City and Man United are the clubs most touted to bag the Englishman.

While City can offer him Champions League football and a chance to replace Vincent Kompany, it is believed that their intended bid of £80 million falls short of the £90 million that Leicester are demanding. Unsurprisingly, United are prepared to meet this amount.
