The Harry Maguire Saga has certainly taken a promising look over the past few days. While Manchester United have had their eye on the Leicester City centre-back from last season itself, the English defender has proven to be quite elusive.

This time around, it is the added presence of Man City that has spiced up the whole affair. Both local rivals are desperate to make defensive additions to their roster and have identified Maguire as their intended target.

The result of this coming together is that the football world may see some sparks fly on the transfer market, something that hasn’t occurred during their on-field meetings all too much.

As per Sky Sports, both the Mancunian clubs are willing to go as high as £65 million for the 26-year-old Maguire.

Leicester City seems to have long held the stance that the world-record fee paid for a defender has to be broken in order to acquire the player. Some estimates have pegged that asking-fee to be as high as £80 million.

The report adds that Pep Guardiola’s desperation for Maguire stems from the fact that he has to make a ‘homegrown player’ signing this summer in order to comply with the Premier League’s rules. If Maguire is that player, the Sky Blues will also be able to replace Vincent Kompany.

As for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the lack of a world-class centre-back is slowly proving to be somewhat of an existential threat for United’s hopes for success.

A host of names in the spot seemed to have gone awry for the Red Devils this summer and they may not be able to face the wrath of their fans if Maguire is lost to City.

However, that may not necessarily be the case. The report does stress that Maguire is presently happy with the Foxes and won’t be pushing for an exit. Despite that, a desire to play for a top-six team does exist.
