How Rio Ferdinand Reacted To Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s Signing
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been officially signed by Manchester United. The 21-year-old will enter Old Trafford with much hope pinned unto him.
The Red Devils have been poor in defense in the recent years, particularly last season where even moments of renewed vigor up front were canceled by the defensive naivety at the back.
They have had a rich history of staunch defensive talent and now one of the biggest legends to have played in that region has strong words of advice for Wan-Bissaka.
Posting to his Instagram, Rio Ferdinand had the following to say about the 21-year-old: “Now the hard work starts for this young English talent. That is the mindset I hope he has… I’m here to learn how to improve in all areas & to become a success at this great club. He has all the natural ingredients you’d want in a modern-day full-back – pace, takes the ball, can defend 1v1, can tackle….all a great base to start with from a coaches point of view.”

That’s certainly a glowing description from Ferdinand who also went on to state the importance of the coaching influence: “It’s how he develops that will be key, identifying areas that need that extra attention which is so important in his development and that’s where he will need help from the coaches at the club.”
He goes on to add how René Meulensteen and Carlos Queiroz played that role for him during his definitive years.
He ended his assessment with pretty much the same hope that has filled a good deal of the Red Devils: “Talented, Young, English & importantly hungry – great place to start. He has earned this opportunity & I wish him all the luck in the world on this new journey.”
While a centre-back would be the most important acquisition for the Red Devils next, murmurs in that regard have been mixed. Let us see what the rest of the window throws up for the Premier League giants.
