Manchester United’s transfer pursuits seem to be returning to the haphazard string of reports like at the start of the window.

Following the deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the club was expected to secure multiple signings, largely due to the impending pre-season tour.

However, with the traveling squad arriving at Perth in Australia, no new signings have been secured. The sagas of both Sean Longstaff and Bruno Fernandes earlier hailed to be on the verge of completion, are stalled yet again. The Harry Maguire angle has reemerged but lacks concrete updates.

To top it off, the Red Devils have been linked to a host of new names and one is slowly emerging as a promising arrival.

As per multiple reports in Italy, United are ‘one step away’ from signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio.

The Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sports Witness), stated that the deal was developing swiftly, with Lazio’s sporting director Igo Tare and Sergej’s agent Mateja Kezman believed to be scheduled to hold talks in London with representatives of the Premier League giants.

The sticking point appears to be the transfer fee for the Serbian international. Here, conflicting reports exist.

One school of thought certainly indicates that the Serie A club fear that Sergej’s value will plummet in the future and wish to cash in on him soon.

As of such, a fee in the range of €75 million is believed to be offered from United, with Lazio hoping to ascend towards the €80 million mark. This is the fee that Tare is reportedly willing to seal a deal for.

However, it is also being claimed that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is still adamant to attain upwards of €120 million for the midfielder.

This amount is akin to the massive one that had discouraged United in their past pursuits and is certainly an absurd proposition given that Sergej didn’t exactly have the finest season last campaign.

As in the Bruno Fernandes saga, there is a chance that United’s progress on the deal may be a tad bit exaggerated.
