Newcastle ‘On The Verge’ Of Parting With Sean Longstaff To Man Utd

Manchester United were expected to make a host of transfers much before departing to Australia for their pre-season tour. However, with the Red Devils training in Perth with their roster, there has been a significant absence of new signings.

The club continues to be linked with a plethora of players, largely occupying the speculated needs of a centre-back, midfielder, and potential replacements for allegedly exit-bound Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

However, only now a new update has emerged on a saga that the club were long expected to have tied down.

As per the Guardian, Newcastle United are on the verge of ‘parting’ with Sean Longstaff to Manchester United. The report in question was one regarding the future of the club, with Steve Bruce believed to be interested in acquiring the vacant managerial post at the club.

Longstaff has been long linked with Old Trafford with past reports stressing that the Mancunian outfit were confident of securing his signature and that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eager to make the 21-year-old Englishman his third signing of the campaign before departing on the pre-season tour.

However, it seems that the progress made by the club was overestimated in that regard and that concrete negotiations are being held only now. The price for the youngster was earlier reported to be a point of contention.

Manchester United may be eager to make a bargain deal for the player but the Magpies look certain to hold out on bigger fee in the range of £50 million or so.

Longstaff has been a promising midfield talent with a penchant for long balls and has been likened to ape the kind of presence that Michael Carrick immortalized at the Theatre of Dreams.

Further, he perfectly fits the profile of young homegrown talent that the Norwegian is eager for at Manchester United.
