Sean Longstaff ‘Desperate’ For A Manchester United Move

Manchester United had to face a reality check this transfer window. The illustrious giants do not have Champions League football to offer for the upcoming season which severely hampers the kind of talents they are able to attract.

Early on in the window, many high-profile deals were believed to have been shelved as the players didn’t consider Old Trafford to be an attractive destination anymore.

As of such, the transfer radar shifted to a more homegrown perspective. The signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka certainly reflect the same. Moreover, this is also the club’s preferred spending range.

As per the Daily Mail, Sean Longstaff is desperate to move to Manchester United from Newcastle United. However, the Magpies are proving to be tough negotiators.

The report states that Newcastle have slapped a £50 million asking price on the 21-year-old. This has shocked Manchester United who were allegedly looking to wrap the deal at the £20 million mark.

It is believed that Newcastle are basing this demand on the amount that the Old Trafford outfit paid for Wan-Bissaka. However, the differences between the two players are sharp.

While the former Crystal Palace right-back topped nearly all defensive charts last season, Longstaff was able to make only 9 appearances in the Premier League.

It is evident that United’s interest is more from a developmental perspective given the player’s potential as a central defensive midfielder. As of such, it seems unlikely that the club will shell out Newcastle’s asking price.

This is a philosophy that will likely continue throughout this window, with the Mancunian giants also believed to be adamant at not meeting Leicester City’s huge valuation of Harry Maguire.
