David Moyes Tried To Sign £4m Rated Harry Maguire In 2013
Most Manchester United fans wish to forget the abysmal season when David Moyes was at the helm of the club. Fresh off the heights of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at the side, much was expected from Moyes, the hand-picked successor of the legendary gaffer.
However, things didn’t turn out as expected and the former Everton manager was sacked even before the season was finished.
That low-point has been one that United have never fully recovered from and many are hoping that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season at Old Trafford will be a different trajectory.
However, Moyes may have intended to do something that Manchester United only recently fulfilled.

According to a report from the Mirror in 2013, Moyes was allegedly monitoring the progress of an upcoming defender by the name of Harry Maguire. Then plying his trade for Sheffield United, the English centre-back was valued at a measly £4 million.
On Sunday, reports claimed that Manchester United had secured an £80 million transfer from Leicester City for Maguire, making him the most expensive defender in history. It is certainly intriguing to see that Moyes was once interested in him.
However, the scouting didn’t pan out and the gaffer never made the alleged investment in the January window, leaving United with the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to fill the gap left by legends Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

It was clearly a mistake that haunted the club deeply, single-handedly marring their subsequent campaigns.
Maguire would later move to Hull City after which Leicester City would pick him up and engineer his ascent to fame.
It is no secret that a player like Maguire is a much-wanted presence at the backline at Old Trafford. The season ahead looks very promising for the Red Devils, who were impressive in their first pre-season game.
