The Paul Pogba departure saga has gotten to the point where too much speculation has marred the accuracy of the reports coming in. Real Madrid are still very much interested in the Frenchman and Manchester United are still very much adamant at holding on to him

That much hasn’t changed. United have a high pricetag attached to Pogba which Los Blancos will have to surpass in order to make any substantial move for the World Cup winner.

A massive claim now exists with regard to what United will do if Pogba does depart to Spain.

According to SportsWitness, who cite La Repubblica, Madrid are going all-out in their pursuit of Pogba.

Zinedine Zidane and company are believed to have ‘accelerated’ their attempt at acquiring the attacking midfielder, which is in line with past claims suggesting that the La Liga giants were putting players up for sale in order to raise the required funds.

In response, United have reportedly fast-tracked their own attempts to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and could be ‘well underway’ in the process of acquiring the Serbian midfielder.

The report adds that Lazio will be receiving a healthy transfer package of €75 million-plus heavy add-on based bonuses for the player, which is expected to placate the Serie A club’s high demands.

While the claim does suggest that the transfer is ‘practically done’ some healthy criticism ought to be exercised in this regard.

While the silly season is known for its exaggerated claims, with United the progress done on marquee deals has a penchant to be overestimated as has been evident in the sagas of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Bruno Fernandes, and Harry Maguire so far.

Despite that, it is clear that the week to follow will be the crucial period for these two major deals to be sealed as it is unlikely that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company will be eager to leave such vital spots up in the air this close to the reopening of the Premier League season.
