Manchester United have identified yet another backup option for Harry Maguire.

The 20-time English champions seem to be facing a great deal of difficulty in their pursuit of Maguire, as Leicester City refuse to budge from their high valuation of the player.

The Foxes have set a £90 million price tag on the England international, and they will not part ways with their star centre-back unless their record-breaking fee demands are met.

Maguire remains the Red Devils’ first-choice defensive target, but they are hesitant to cough up the humongous sum being demanded by Leicester City.

Now, according to the Telegraph, the Mancunian giants have identified a backup option in case they put an end to their Maguire pursuit, in the form of Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld.

As per the release clause in his current Spurs contract, the 30-year-old defender would be available for a meagre £25m – a sum that would be much more convenient that the Maguire fee.

However, that release clause is all set to expire this Friday, following which the London club’s president, Daniel Levy, is expected to raise Alderweireld’s valuation up to £40m.

Therefore, Manchester United will have to make their decision as soon as possible, and act quick if they intend to sign the Belgian international for a discounted fee.
