Expert opinion goes a long way in making vital decisions in football. At Manchester United, there is often no opinion as strong as the one offered by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The legendary gaffer’s era defined the success of United’s tenure in the modern era, and his absence has left a gap that the club is yet to fill.

However, Ferguson is still believed to be a vital presence behind the scenes at Old Trafford and his advice is one that present gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer happens to treasure.

As of such, Ferguson’s alleged transfer pinpoint may be taken seriously.

According to the Sun, Sir Alex Ferguson wants Manchester United to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn. The 24-year-old Scottish talent is a ‘fierce’ presence in the middle and was a crucial aspect of Villa’s return to Premier League football.

The report states that Ferguson is good friends with McGinn’s grandfather and is lobbying to get United to sign the starlet. However, Aston Villa are reportedly holding out on a £50 million transfer fee for him.

This is interesting as United are desperately in the market for a creative midfield talent and the sagas of Sean Longstaff and Bruno Fernandes are yet to be completed.

This is despite reports suggesting that Fernandes is inching closer to a transfer to Old Trafford, but then again that has been reported several times in the past.

At the same time, the routine is predictable with clubs requesting a premium transfer fee that the higher-ups at United are hesitant to dish out.

However, will the SAF seal of approval make a difference in this saga? Few days remain until the end of the window and with plenty of business on their plate already, it will be interesting to see if anything develops of this claim.
