Pep Guardiola’s Reaction To United Beating City In Harry Maguire Race
Pep Guardiola has revealed why Manchester City failed to sign Harry Maguire.
The England international has completed all his formalities at Manchester United, and will be officially announced as their new signing come Monday.
The Red Devils have reportedly coughed up a record-breaking transfer fee for the centre-back, the quoted amount being in the range of £80 million.
Manchester City were also interested in securing the 26-year-old’s services, with manager Pep Guardiola identifying him as a potential long-term replacement for the departed Vincent Kompany.

However, Leicester City’s mammoth valuation of the player apparently forced the Cityzens to bow out of this transfer race, and now, Guardiola has confirmed the same.
The Spanish tactician was asked about Maguire’s move to Old Trafford post Sunday’s Community Shield encounter between City and Liverpool, which the former won on penalties.

“Top class player,” Guardiola said of Maguire (via Metro). “We were interested, but we could not afford it. United could afford it. Congratulations to United on this signing.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has well and truly won the race for this top defender, who will undoubtedly improve Manchester United’s backline for the season to come.
