Maguire Rejected Massive Offer From Man City To Join Man Utd Instead

Manchester United were able to solve a massive problem when they secured the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City. It was certainly a controversial saga with numerous false starts and red herrings and it did end up getting drawn-out until the very last minute in the window.
However, the world-record signing proved his mettle against Chelsea and Old Trafford were graced with the almighty sight of amodern ball-playing centre-back.
However, Maguire could have ended up on the opposite side of Manchester, but specifically chose the Theatre of Dreams.
Pep Guardiola had earlier confirmed that Manchester City were very much interested in acquiring Maguire from the Foxes.

The City gaffer revealed: “He’s an excellent, top-class player. We were interested but could not afford it. United could afford it. He had an incredible World Cup. He’s strong in the air, good with the ball and builds it up, he’s so fast. He’s young. Congratulations to United.”
It is clear that City weren’t willing to break the world-record transfer fee that Leicester were adamant on.
However, it appears that they had the financially superior offer to their rivals on a different front.

The Daily Star claims that the Sky Blues were willing to offer Maguire a humungous £278,000-a-week offer if he moved to the Etihad. However, Maguire is believed to have stressed that he wanted to move to United despite the Red Devils offering him a comparatively lower £180,000-a-week package.
If true, this claim does reinstate some hope that cash hasn’t totally taken over the game yet.
Choosing passion over money is the precise kind of mentality that United require for their long-term future. Maguire has already been branded as a natural leader at the back and there is a strong chance that he will be sporting the captain’s armband at some point in the future.
