Solskjaer’s Reaction To Ibrahimovic’s Comment On Manchester United Return

Zlatan Ibrahimovic did turn quite a few heads recently when he indicated that he would be willing to make a Manchester United return after his contract with LA Galaxy ran out in November.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quizzed on the comments of the Swede, the reply given was of some magnitude.

The Norwegian gaffer replied as follows during his Friday press conference: “If he [Ibrahimović] was 28, not 38 next month [maybe it would be possible]. There’s a big difference.”

He went on to state that the Swedish striker had the necessary contacts to inquire about a possible move: “Zlatan had a great time here, he’s still doing well, it’s unfortunate he got his injury here. Who knows, he knows my number, he looked at my house. We can speak a native language, if he’s serious I’ll always speak to Zlatan.”

However, the gaffer’s comments thereon do paint a rather conservative image on the possibility: “I don’t think that will happen, I think he’s had his time at the club, he’s had a fantastic career at the club.”

Of course, the bigger takeaway from this statement is that Solskjaer hasn’t technically ruled out the possibility and that Old Trafford could still see the European legend ply his trade for the Red Devils yet again.

The seriousness of Zlatan’s claim is what is yet to be seen. Traditionally, he has preferred to move to new clubs and amass newer experiences. As of now, the Bundesliga is the one destination that the striker is yet to grace.

Then again, the fact that United could do with an extra pair of experienced feet up-front is in no doubt. Solskjaer will get the first taste of just how thin his striking options are on Saturday when the Red Devils take on Southampton bereft of the injured Anthony Martial.
