West Ham 2-0 Manchester United: Player Ratings
Manchester United’s rotten away form continued as West Ham United succeeded in defeating them 2-0 on Sunday.
Andriy Yarmolenko opened the scoring for the home-side at the cusp of half-time and a brilliant freekick from Aaron Creswell in the 84th minute ensured that the Hammers secured all three points and temporarily cradled themselves in the top four.
Here’s how the Red Devils fared during the encounter:
David De Gea – 5.5
Poor from the Spaniard who could have done a lot more to save both the goals, despite the sheer brilliance of Creswell’s freekick.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.7
Arguably United’s best player on the pitch and that says quite something. The Englishman had an attacking and tackling flair throughout the game but couldn’t do much about the end result.
Victor Lindelof – 5.7
Not a convincing game from the Swede who was often sloppy at the back.
Harry Maguire – 5.8
Arguably Maguire’s worst performance as a United player. Had a decent chance to score but couldn’t muster a good shot and was a silent spectator to West Ham’s opener.
Ashley Young – 5.2
Let loose far too many long balls unnecessarily. His foul ultimately led to Creswell’s winning freekick.
Scott McTominay – 6.5
Usual solid presence in the midfield but couldn’t contribute much during the game.
Nemanja Matic – 5.8
Better than critics would have pegged him to be but was still incapable of matching the constant pressure from the home side’s midfield.
Andreas Pereira – 4.9
Looked out of place in the lineup but displayed a fairly decent pass percentage of 82%.
Juan Mata – 4.6
Couldn’t inject the creativity the Mancunian side badly required. Ought to have scored in the second-half.
Daniel James – 6.2
The short-lived spurt of form fears appear to be coming true as the Welshman wasn’t in his usual attacking mojo and had only one shot to his name the whole game.
Marcus Rashford – 4.5
Was exceptionally poor upfront and the fact that he left the pitch injured further adds to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s headache.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard- 5.7
Was unsure during his time on the pitch, largely due to positional confusion.
Fred – 5.9
Couldn’t ape his Europa League brilliance and was sloppy in his tackles.
Angel Gomes – Brought on too late to make an impact.
