Man United’s Premier League Win Percentage Is Higher Without De Gea

David De Gea’s latest injury could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Manchester United.

During his team’s recent international fixture against Sweden, the Spanish international limped off the field after having pulled a muscle.

Due to the injury setback, the 28-year-old is set to miss the Red Devils’ upcoming high-profile Premier League encounter against table-toppers Liverpool.

In his stead, Sergio Romero will be fielded between the sticks—a move that, irrespective of popular opinion, could prove to be a positive one for the Mancunian giants.

The positivity stems from the fact that Romero boasts of much better stats as compared to De Gea in the Premier League. Granted, the Argentinian has made just seven PL appearances as compared to Dave’s 283, but his numbers are impressive nonetheless.

While De Gea has managed to keep 102 clean sheets in 283 games (36% success rate), Romero has bagged six in those seven appearances (86% success). The only league goals the latter conceded were during the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Swansea City back in August 2015.

Further, while the Spaniard has made ten errors that have directly resulted in Premier League goals, Romero has made none thus far.

Moreover, not only is the 32-year-old more accurate with his passing than De Gea, but he also makes 2.9 saves per game as opposed to David’s 2.8. Romero has also distributed 7.7 successful long balls per PL game, compared to the United number one’s 6.6.

Despite the huge discrepancy in the number of appearances, Romero’s statistics remain quite notable. It will, however, be interesting to see if they prove to be any helpful when his team takes of Jurgen Klopp’s highflying squad come Sunday.
