Manchester United Confident Of Securing £80m Transfer Of Kai Havertz

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took permanent charge of Manchester United and presided over their first summer transfer window, the theme was obvious. All three signings of Harry Maguire, Daniel James, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were young and upcoming British talent.

It has now been repeated as a platitude that this will be the Norwegian gaffer’s go-to strategy for future windows as well.

However, recent reports have linked them to several young players who function elsewhere in Europe.

Kai Havertz has been repeatedly touted as a player that Manchester United is looking to sign.

Now, the 20-year-old Bayern Leverkusen starlet, in an interview with Marca (via the Daily Star) has acknowledged the murmurs of his departure.

Initially, he opened up about the Bayern Munich link: “They’re probably the biggest club in Germany and there are many players that were very successful at a young age that went there. Therefore, I get linked with Bayern, but we’ll see what happens.”

Now, Manchester United are very keen on pursuing this deal, with Ed Woodward having a figure in mind.

Next, the midfielder pragmatically revealed where his heart lies: “There are players that want to stay close to their family and others say, ‘I want to live in another country’. There’s something clear: if you want to be a star in Germany, you can’t go wrong with Bayern.”

The most promising piece of information for United came in what he went on to add, albeit with an added time constraint: “I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen. I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany. For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”

The Star’s report adds that United is now confident of acquiring the player for a sum of £80 million. Will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still be at the helm to engineer this potential deal?
