The Erling Haaland saga has swept Manchester United transfer news and now fans may be led down an all-too-familiar path, sidelining the other sagas United have been linked with.

While many are skeptical about the teenager’s actual potential, largely writing him off for functioning in the Austrian Bundesliga, the fact that his goalscoring barrage, especially in the Champions League where he has netted 7 goals, has led him to top the competition’s charts ahead of the usual suspects may justify a part of the hype.

Now, the Red Devils may be keen on not making the mistake of waiting too long and are bound to be proactive, while also pursuing several other long-term targets in January.

According to ESPN, Manchester United will make a formal inquiry about the availability of Haaland in January.

The source appears to be working under the previously reported assumption that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company are willing to make a purchase in the winter window itself and permit the striker to see out the rest of the campaign with the Austrian Bundesliga giants themselves.

Further still, the same report also adds that Solskjaer and Ed Woodward have compiled an eight-man shortlist of long-term targets they will pursue in the winter window. In addition to Haaland, the likes of Jadon Sancho and James Maddison make up some fairly expensive deals.

Moreover, the British theme continues with links to Declan Rice, John McGinn, and Jack Grealish, all talents within the Premier League. In accordance with prior reports, Lyon’s impressive forward Moussa Dembele also makes the cut, likely as a fall-back option if the bigger names prove elusive.

The club appears to be intent on not being tempted into panic deals in the winter. As of such, these multiple inquiries are very intriguing. How many of these signings will United actually succeed in securing in the new year?
