Sporting Lisbon Open To Selling Bruno Fernandes In A £65m Deal

Manchester United have been gifted the perfect scenario to sign long-term target Bruno Fernandes as Sporting CP find themselves in a very awkward position.

The Red Devils were reportedly working to sign the Portuguese international during the summer but ultimately failed to bring him to England due to Sporting’s excessive demands regarding the player’s pricetag.

Fernandes was seen as the ideal replacement to Ander Herrera, who left for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

In 17 appearances for the Portuguese side so far, the midfielder has managed to register a whopping 9 goals this season. Coupling the Portuguese’s attacking threat with Paul Pogba could be the balance Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to induct into his side’s midfield.

Meanwhile, any future attempts at signing the attacking midfielder have been made easier by the Liga NOS side as they find themselves in a massive debt of £57 million.

As per Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via the Daily Mail), the club would be prepared to cash in on their skipper to clear the debt and could do so for as low as £65 million. A sum lower than what they valued him at 6 months ago.

However, United are set to face competition from Tottenham Hotspur who view the Sporting superstar as a potential replacement to the unsettled Christian Eriksen.

On the other hand, the player himself admitted there are ‘dreams’ he would like to fullfil, indicating a open mind to a move outside Portugal, but insists he isn’t in any hurry to force an escape.

“I’m well, doing my job and doing the best I can,” the Sporting captain told reporters.

“I have dreams to fulfil but I have no need to force my departure.”

It is unclear whether the Premier League giants would be back for their ideal midfield signing, but they won’t be given a better opportunity than this.
