Marcus Rashford is presently Manchester United’s top goal scorer in all competitions, with his Premier League tally alone standing at 7, with Anthony Martial’s 3 goals following suit.

These two figures aptly capture a lot of what is wrong with the Red Devils who have failed to replace Romelu Lukaku or for that matter any potent attacker capable of netting goals and making the most out of a pacey frontline.

This has become even more evident when form and injuries have limited their options up-front.

As of such, it was considered a given that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would pursue a striker in the winter transfer window, be it an upcoming prospect or a makeshift veteran.

Now, one of those possibilities appears to be off the table.

According to the Athletic, Manchester United have more or less ended their pursuit for Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic.

The Croatian striker was long touted to be the perfect acquisition for the Premier League club and there were a plethora of reasons why he would be an impactful piece of business.

However, the report reckons that the Old Trafford outfit are concerned about the fitness of the 33-year-old who had previously functioned for Bayern Munich.

This does appear to be a valid reason given that Juventus have completely kept him out of professional football so far this season, which also happened to be a causal factor as to why this saga seemed likely.

Recent reports had even floated the idea of a pre-transfer deal that would see Mandzukic train with the United players before the end of the year.

However, now it appears that dropping the shutters on this saga will mean that United could focus on another player.

Erling Braut Haaland has been a staunchly linked player to the Norwegian gaffer’s outfit and it could appear that the acquisition of his youthful services is prioritized come January.
