Jose Mourinho’s Reaction To Scott McTominay’s Performance Against Spurs

Jose Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford dominated the headlines and discussion of the match week. The Special One was sacked by the Red Devils less than a year ago and this rodeo with Spurs on Wednesday was hyped up further as the Portuguese gaffer’s tactics were anticipated.

However, in terms of football, Spurs were lackluster with Mourinho’s limited time in charge proving largely ineffective at changing some of the bigger problems plaguing the London side.

As of such, the 2-1 victory to United was a natural progression of the game.

Interestingly, the gaffer also got another chance to see how well the players he had mentored last campaign had flourished.

Chief amongst these was Scott McTominay who returned back from injury just in time to show his skillset to his former gaffer.

Speaking to the press after the full-time whistle, Mourinho stated the following about the academy graduate: “The way we come to the game by the emotional way, they had more emotion than us, you see for example McTominay performance, the globality of his performance, he was dominant.”

It is no surprise that Mourinho elected to heap praise upon McTominay, especially as he had a crucial role to play in the starlet’s evolution to regular first-team football.

The trust that Mourinho placed upon the midfielder, giving him the Manager’s Player of the Year is manifesting itself this campaign. Fans often commented on the Special One’s hindsight regarding McTominay and with each performance that the Scottish international delivers, that becomes all the more obvious.

What this fixture did more than anything else is set the tone for the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane in March by when Mourinho is likely to have done a lot more work on his team and put up a more tactical fight than Wednesday’s showing.
