Manchester United has always boasted of some impeccable goalkeeping talent with greats like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Saar securing the defense at Old Trafford.

In the present era, the sheer brilliance of David De Gea has often been commented upon, with the Spaniard keeping true with the legacy at the club and singlehandedly saving United points on many occasions.

However, the existing roster at the club also boasts of a marvelous second-choice keeper in Sergio Romero, and the Argentine shotstopper has just completed a brilliant accolade.

In his 50th appearance for Manchester United during their 4-0 win over AZ at Old Trafford, Romero kept his 31st cleansheet. This is an incredible achievement and anyone who has observed his antics on the pitch will know that he has a flexible dexterity of his own to boast of.

Further still, there isn’t friction here of him trying to push for the starting spot and threaten to leave as is often the case with secondary keepers elsewhere in Europe. This leads to a healthy rapport and feats like his Europa League victory are evidence of the same.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Romero revealed precisely what he felt about the role he fulfills at the club: “It’s not easy, but I work every day for this, for this possibility. When I have my chance in the squad to play, I am ready for this moment. I think in the last four years I have been in a difficult situation because I have played for the national team for years. But I am ready, I work every day for my chance and when I have my chance I try to do my best.”

He goes on to add: “But I work, I am happy, I am in the best club in the world. I tell about another time when I was young, I saw Man Utd play many times and I say ‘one day I want to play in this club.”
