What David de Gea Tweeted After Controversial Everton Goal

Everton traveled to Old Trafford for a Super Sunday clash against Manchester United.

The Red Devils were surprisingly kept at bay despite their impressive wins in during their previous Premier League outings. The form from United’s win against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City failed to carry on to this week as the spoils had to be shared with the Merseyside outfit.

However, it could be argued that the game wasn’t entirely fair as the only reason Everton managed to bag a point was through a controversial goal.

Towards the end of the second half, the Toffees earned a corner which led to a Victor Lindelof own goal.

But in the midst of the play, Dominic Calvert-Lewin seems to have fouled David de Gea who leaped to punch the incoming corner away. This caused the ball to drift past all contesting heads and onto the head of Lindelof who couldn’t help himself in that situation.

The Englishman failed to make any sort of contact with the ball and stopped de Gea from nullifying the corner from Leighton Baines. Replays showed Calvert-Lewin had struck the goalkeeper as he contested for the ball but VAR deemed the goal fair.

Naturally, this frustrated fans and players alike. The Spaniard especially, who took to Twitter to express his discontent and disagreement with the decisions. The United shotstopper posted an image of the incident captioning it with a cheeky pair of eye emojis.

Nevertheless, the Mancunians were saved by a second-half goal from teenage sensation Mason Greenwood, who made sure his side don’t end the fixture empty handed. Full-time whistle went off with the scoreline at 1-1, keeping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side out of the top 4 yet again.
