Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared to have things in control at Manchester United when 2019 came to a close. Even though the outfit was in all sorts of woes throughout the year, some of their closing performances in the crowded December window really inspired great hope and ensured that the Red Devils had positives to look forward to in the new decade.

However, the year’s opening fixture saw Arsenal post a convincing 2-0 victory over Solskjaer’s side, adding yet another poor performance to the Norwegian’s tally.

On multiple occasions since the former player took over fans have been irked with his management and asked for him to be sacked. Now, the clear frustration may have been taken to the next level.

A section of the Manchester United supporters have started a Change.org petition to get rid of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

At the time of writing this article, the petition in question had over 1000 signatures with a vast majority of the comments expressing their obvious disdain about the style in which Solskjaer has been handling the affairs of the once illustrious outfit.

Precedent set for much of the past decade has clearly shown that losing the trust of fans never bodes well for a sitting manager, with all of the gaffers who had taken charge of the Mancunian outfit since Sir Alex Ferguson retired having frustrated supporters in one way or another.

When Solskjaer was initially appointed, it appeared certain that fans would never tire of the Norwegian who had etched memorable moments into the club’s history. The chants in those initial weeks reflected the same.

However, in the year since, things have taken a dramatic turn with every shortcoming of the side being followed with such backlash on social media.

While an online petition is in no way a reflection of the larger mood of the fan base, there is no denying that Solskjaer isn’t as popular as he used to be.
